Nille is one of Norway’s largest mixed retail chains, with 300 stores across the country. The brand offers seasonal products, home decor, party items, and everyday essentials that drive heavy traffic peaks around holidays and campaigns.
With a high share of impulse purchases and significant in-store volume, Nille depends on fast and reliable checkout processes. To strengthen store operations and support both everyday sales and seasonal peaks, Nille implements a flexible mobile POS system with the Fygi, Norwegian POS provider, and SoftPOS solution from Softpay.

Why SoftPOS, and why now
Globally, SoftPOS (tap-to-pay) is one of the fastest-growing segments in payments. Recent industry reports estimate the SoftPOS market at around USD 420 million in 2025, with projections to exceed USD 1.4 billion by 2030 and beyond as retailers look for more flexible, software-based acceptance.
Although SoftPOS first gained traction with smaller merchants, large retail enterprises are now increasingly adopting it for a variety of use cases, including assisted mobile sales, queue busting and pop-up shops, a standalone redundancy system, and self-check-out. Nille is among these enterprise adopters, integrating SoftPOS as a flexible extension of its existing payment infrastructure.
“We needed more flexibility in how we handle payments. With strong seasonality, having a reliable emergency solution is critical. If our 500 traditional checkouts are down, we still need to serve customers quickly. Fygi and Softpay give us options we didn’t have before,” Arvid Helstedt Tennefoss, CIO at Nille
The rollout: enabling on-aisle payments across every store
Fygi and Softpay are enabling a new way for Nille to handle payments, directly on the shop floor. This represents a clear shift away from checkout-only workflows toward a more mobile, customer-first in-store experience.
Fygi supports this setup by working on top of Nille’s existing infrastructure, integrating with the chain’s POS system, payment service providers, and accounting flows. This makes it possible to introduce new checkout concepts without disrupting daily operations, while still ensuring stability and scalability across all stores.
Based on this setup, Nille is deploying Softpay’s tap-to-pay solution on Zebra TC57 enterprise devices. Store employees can accept secure contactless payments anywhere in or around the store, using familiar hardware designed for daily retail operations.
For Nille, on-aisle payments represent a new way of working in-store. Instead of directing customers to a fixed checkout, employees can move freely through the store, assist customers at the point of decision, and complete the payment immediately. This reduces queues during busy periods and creates a more natural interaction between staff and customers.
“SoftPOS is transforming how retailers think about payments. Working with Nille shows how software-driven checkout can improve both efficiency and customer experience at scale.”
— Halvor Kaafjeld, Country Manager at Softpay
Beyond daily efficiency, the SoftPOS solution plays a critical role in business continuity. If fixed terminals or the primaty POS system become unavailable, stores can continue accepting payments via mobile devices. This stand-alone redundancy ensures sales can continue, even during system outages.
The solution required minimal training. With the intuitive Softpay app and workflows supported by Fygi, store teams were able to adopt mobile payments quickly.

Today, the setup is used for:
- Queue busting during peak hours
- Assisted selling directly on the shop floor
- Emergency payments when fixed terminals are unavailable
- Payments at pop-ups, events, and outdoor sales areas
“This is about meeting customers where they are in the store. Employees can help, sell, and take payment in one flow — and at the same time, Nille gains the flexibility and resilience that modern retail requires.”
— Niclas Kristiansen, CEO at Fygi
Together, Fygi and Softpay provide Nille with a mobile, software-driven payment capability that complements existing systems. The solution extends checkout beyond the counter while preserving operational stability, established reporting flows, and the ability to scale store operations up or down as needed.
